I
have designed a content based material for grade level three on the subject Mathematics.
The topic I have chosen is “Moving Shapes” under chapter five Geometry. The
reason behind choosing this topic is I found it suitable to teach with the
integration of ICT in my classroom because 2-D shapes are those shapes that we
cannot touch or feel but we can simply see it. Keeping that in mind I can teach
through representation in pictures and video form. The main objective is to let
students identify and describe the movement of 2-D shapes as slide, turn and
flip. I have chosen Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool to design the content based
materials because it is an easy program to use and a powerful tool for giving a
presentation. It is also one of the ways to captivate audience through use of
pictures, video and animations.
How
did I create the materials?
In
my first slide, I have designed a black background and then, inserted different
2-D shapes with different colours. After that, I have used various animations
like spin, basic swivel, float in and fly in to make my presentation
presentable. In next slide, I typed the title “how can we move shape”. I
inserted three different shapes with different colours and added animations
like line motion, appear, spin and disappear. Then, inserted three textboxes
and wrote the names of movement like sliding, flip, and turn. After that I
arrange the shapes and textboxes together and accordingly. I made in such a way
that first the shape will appear and then only text because it will build
curiosity in children whilst provide opportunities for teachers to draw ideas
when pictures pop out without any wording.
In
third and fourth slides, it have sliding concept and its example in which for
the concept slide, I have labelled shapes and for one shape I used the
animation line motion to explain sliding. I have inserted a textbox which
explain the concept of sliding and applied appear animation. For example slide
also I have applied the same animation. In next slide I have turn concept and
its example where by, I have downloaded the picture of clock to show the
direction of turn. Here also, I have used animations like appear and wedge. After
these two slides, it is about flipping, flip line and examples where by explain
the concept using picture along with text. In flip line slide, I have given two
examples using two different shapes. I have designed a quiz and it includes
slides ten till twenty eight. I have used the hyperlink and I have also used
the applause sound for the correct answer in the quiz to encourage and
reinforce them and
When should the materials be used?
The
materials can be used in lesson development and in learning activity. The reason
is, in lesson development, the information input is addressed and the materials
will aids and suffice the information input where by the teacher can teach the
meaning of the concept along with examples from the slides. It can be also used in
learning activity and specifically for the quiz part because the learning
activity is in quiz form. The quiz is developed based upon the concept included
from the previous slides that the students have already learnt.
Quiz instructions:
- You all will be grouped into 3 groups of 3 members according to your roll numbers.
- There are six questions in total.
- Each
group will get an opportunity to choose two questions.
- If
a group is not able to answer the question, it will be pass to other group.
- For
every correct answer, you will be awarded 4 points.
- If
you answer the pass question, your group will be awarded 2 points.
- For
each question, you will be given 1 minute.
- The group with highest point will be the winner and will be awarded 5 points in CA.
