This time I am here with my new material for grade PP.
The subject I have chosen is English and the topic is “Vegetables”. The main
objective is to let the students identify and tell the name of the vegetables
correctly. Here, the bonus point is students have already learned about the name
of the colours and numbers and in this topic also, students will be introduced to
the name of the vegetables along with few name of colours and numbers. I have
used Microsoft PowerPoint and video as a tool to design the content based
materials. The main reason behind converting PowerPoint into video is, it
appeal to all levels of learners and the learning style. It provide student to
learn at their pace and opportunity for self-study. Students can pause the
video and take a break when required but in PowerPoint presentation there is no
option for pause because it goes on and on and it will be exhausting and
boring. Thus, video serve a multi- purposes and a great tool for effective
learning.
I have downloaded relevant and animated pictures
from the internet in order to provide a better picture of the concept because children
love animated pictures whilst they can retain the information for longer
duration. The animated pictures I have downloaded are catchy and interesting to
the eyes of young children. I have inserted my voice in every slides because it
will guide the students while watching and help them to identify and tell the
name of the vegetables correctly. Moreover, I have used simple and different
animations in order to arouse curiosity in children and avoid distractions.
How
did I create the materials?
In the first slide, I have inserted a gif of
vegetables dancing in the air and I let the students to guess what they are
going to learn. Through this it will build curiosity in students. Then, the
vegetables word will pop out slowly along with my voice. I have used entrance animation
(wipe) for the word to pop out and even set the time precisely with my voice. In
second slide, I have inserted animated pictures of six different vegetables and
added emphasis animation (grow/shrink) in each picture. Here, I will also use
the concept of number to count the vegetables that they are going to learn and
I have also fixed the time exactly with my voice.
For slide three till eight, firstly I
have shown the picture of vegetable and let the students guess the name of the
vegetables. I have utilized different emphasis animations (peek in, float,
float in, bounce, fade, grown & turn) for the vegetable to pop out. After that,
a sentence will come out describing the name of the vegetable and followed by
second sentence with its shape and colour. I have used entrance animation
(wipe) and adjusted the time exactly with my voice. In ninth slide, I have presented
the importance of eating vegetables in which it is essential for students to
know the reason behind eating vegetables in their everyday life. Here also I
have applied entrance animation (wipe and appear) for sentence and pictures
accordingly with my voice.
From slide ten till thirteen it mainly focused on the activity. I have designed an activity based upon the game named “Who am I?” in which the students will be actively participating because firstly I have given them a clue in which I read the sentence. Then, I provided them with a think time of five seconds but in real classroom teacher can provide 1 minute for think time by pausing the video. Only after that, the picture of the vegetable along with the name will pop out. Like I mentioned before I have used entrance and emphasis animations (fade, blink, zoom and wipe). We all know that it is crucial to sum up the lesson to help students recapitulate and I did in the fourteen slide. One by one I showcased the picture along with the name of the vegetable by using entrance animation (fade). In the second last slide, I gave them homework in order to ensure their learning and ended my presentation with a thank you note. Then, I saved the ppt file and converted into video.
When
should the materials be used?
The materials can be used in lesson development, learning activity and even in lesson closure. In lesson development, all the six different vegetables name will be explained though my narration. I have designed an activity in the form of game where by students love when they hear the word game and I ensure that this will captivate their attention and engage them productively. Not to forget, the questions are framed based upon the previous slides presented or related to the name of six vegetables. The materials can be used in lesson closure because I have a slide where it will recapitulate the name of vegetables along with the pictures.
Game instructions:
- You all will be
grouped into 4 groups of 4 members.
- Firstly, I will
read the questions and after that you will read by yourself.
- Then, discuss with
your group members.
- Whoever group
knows the answer can raise their white flag.
- If the group
gives the wrong answer, it will be passing over to other group raising their
white flag.
- For each
question you will get 1 minute in which I will pause the video.
- The group with highest correct answers will be awarded prizes.
